Pair of French Louis XVI Antique White Marble Top Commodes

A PAIR!!! And not just any pair, an antique pair! If you’ve been following me for a while, you know how rare, and therefore how truly special a pair is - let alone an antique pair! 

This is what we call a “matched pair” or as I like to call them, “sisters”. They aren’t identical twins but as close as you can get! Let’s talk through the similarities and differences:

Both commodes have banded drawers - a darker stain banding each drawer that is darker than that of the rest of the case. Both have square pulls, one commode’s circle anchors are slightly larger than the other. The escutcheons are both beaded, one has an oval shape and the other is a circle. Both have fluted tapered legs that are NEARLY identical - one has an extra little band above the foot, you have to get down on the floor with a magnifying glass to see it! (I actually didn’t believe my husband when he noted they were different. He had to persuade me by getting me down on the floor to inspect the legs.) 

The largest difference is in the coloring of the marble. Both have VERY similar white marble with gray veining; however, one has seen more age than the other and has a yellower coloring. There are also chips on the bottom as well as staining (as photographed).

Both have three full size drawers, all sliding well, with dovetail construction. Both pieces also come with a key so that you can hang tassels!
