Hand sourced in England, this Cantonese sewing table is a rare and remarkable find, dating from around 1820–1850 and hand-sourced out of Plas Teg, a Jacobean castle in Wales. 

The table showcases intricate lacquered scenes across its surface, featuring traditional Chinese motifs and figures in garden and pavilion settings. The craftsmanship is incredibly detailed, with rich colors and delicate gold accents set against a deep black lacquer.

Inside, the table opens to reveal its original fitted sewing compartments, complete with divided sections for tools. The interior has aged beautifully, showing signs of use while retaining its elegance and structure.

Carved legs, dragon feet, and shaped stretchers beneath give the piece presence and balance, allowing it to function as both a decorative accent and a conversation piece.

This table represents a fascinating chapter of 19th-century trade and design - where export Chinese furniture found its way into British homes and estates.
