Hand-sourced in the south of France, this bleached Belgian commode was one of those rare pieces I knew I wanted before the market even opened. I saw a single photo the day before, lined up at the front gate that morning, and quite literally ran to the vendor’s truck to claim her as soon as she came off. Sourced from a wonderful father-and-son duo I’ve followed for years — and absolutely worth the sprint.

She features three beautifully proportioned drawers with carved fronts, detailed escutcheons, and a soft bleached finish that lets the craftsmanship speak without feeling heavy. The scale feels grounded and useful, while the subtle carving adds just enough movement across the facade. And perhaps the most special detail — all three original keys remain, something you almost never find intact on a piece of this age.

A strong, versatile commode that would be beautiful styled beneath a mirror, layered with art and books, or anchoring a bedroom with collected pieces around her.

CONDITION

Signs of previous wood-boring insects consistent with age and origin. The piece has been previously treated, and no active movement or current activity has been witnessed. Overall presents beautifully with only minor wear and character marks expected of an antique of this period, and no other notable condition issues to report.
